ResEdit™ 3.0 is a completely new implementation of ResEdit, designed to provide a powerful, extensible, and maintainable editing solution for resource files, PEF files, and other file types. It is being developed to replace previous versions of ResEdit. Here are some of the features of ResEdit 3.0:
• Standard Macintosh application look-and-feel
• Extensible architecture with plug-ins and scripting
• WorldScript support
• Macintosh Drag and Drop support
About this Release
This first developer release of ResEdit provides the general application framework, and includes editors for many resource types.
Current Limitations
The documentation for this release refers to version 3.0d2. There were no changes in version 3.0d3 that affected the documentation.
This release is not yet a complete replacement for ResEdit 2.1.x. A number of editors from ResEdit 2.1.x are not yet implemented.
ResEdit 3.0d3 runs only on Power Macintosh computers.
The scripting language specifications—Exploder Definition Language (EDL) and Viewer Definition Language (VDL)—are not final in this release, and as such are not documented. EDL and VDL programs that work with this release may require changes to work with future releases.
What’s Planned for Future Releases?
• Editors for all resources supported by ResEdit 2.1.x
• ResEdit 2.1.x commands and capabilities
• Data fork editors
• Software Developer’s Kit for extending ResEdit
